Fresenius Kabi Neonatal Advisory Board

Fresenius Kabi Neonatal Advisory Board Meeting - 28 April 2016

Thirteen years ago, following a call for standardisation of neonatal parenteral nutrition provision, Fresenius Kabi gathered together a group of specialists to investigate whether a range of standardised formulations could be achieved for this purpose.  The formulations which were devised provided the back bone of standardised neonatal parenteral nutritonal care.  Since this time there have been a number of developments both in practice and scientific research in this area, it was therefore thought to be timely to hold another Advisory Board meeting.  The meeting set out to explore how a range of standardised formulations designed to optimise alignment with contemporary scientific knowledge and practice might look.

The Advisory Board was made up of consultant neonatologists, pharmacists and dietitians, all having a wealth of experience in neonatal parenteral nutrition.  The level of expertise cannot be overstated as all of the participants had either been involved in recent clinical trials or initatives at national and/or regional level to improve neonatal PN practice.  Thanks to the enthusiasm and excellent contributions of the participants, the meeting objectives were successfully achieved.  After a series of comprehensive discussions, recommendations for a revised range of standardised formulations were made.

Details of these recommendations will be available at a series of Neonatal Study Days planned for Autumn 2016.
