Indications
For long-term intragastric feeding, additionally it is indicated in patients with:
1. Motility disorders or blockage of the oesophagus
- Benign or malignant tumours
- Varicies
- Burns
- Oesophageal pouches
- Radiation or chemotherapy
2. Ear, nose and throat tumours
- To avoid metastatic seedign of tumour cells
- Short term feeding
3. Post oral surgery
- only nasal endoscopy possible
Contraindications
· Gross ascites.
· Peritonitis.
· Oesophageal obstruction/varices.
· Malignancy at anticipated puncture site.
· Inability to pass endoscope.
· Active gastric ulceration.
· Clotting disorders.
· Gross obesity.
· Gastric outlet obstruction.
· Pervious gastric surgery.
